Campaign One

Ethical & Competent Leadership

The lack of ethical leadership is at the heart of many of the problems facing the City. This campaigns aims to address the appointment of competent, qualified and honest city officials, top to bottom, including the Boards of the entities. 1

  • A city cannot function without honest, competent leadership. Corruption, mismanagement, and unqualified appointments have crippled Joburg’s governance, leaving residents to suffer the consequences. We need ethical leaders who prioritize service delivery over self-interest.

  • Looking ahead, this campaign work with residents to diligently choose their representatives at the 2026 local elections irrespective of political party affiliation or as independent candidates.

    JCA is pushing for transparent, merit-based appointments at all levels of city governance—from top officials to the boards of municipal entities. We are advocating for ethical leadership policies and exposing questionable appointments through media and public pressure.

Campaign Two

Save Joburg

Service delivery is central to the Save Joburg campaign. The JCA prioritizes water security, cleanliness, public amenities, and other service delivery issues. The Joburg Metro Centre, as the service delivery base, will also be included.

  • Joburg is in crisis. Water shortages, uncollected waste, decaying infrastructure, and neglected public spaces are making daily life unbearable. The city’s service delivery systems need urgent intervention.

  • Through the Save Joburg campaign, we are demanding immediate action on water security, urban cleanliness, and the maintenance of public amenities. We are also calling for the revitalization of the Joburg Metro Centre, which is critical to effective service delivery.

Campaign Three

Civic Activism

The Civic Activism campaign aims to get residents active in their local communities. It will encourage the formation of community organisations, promote Civic Saturdays to get residents active in a wide variety of activities to address local issues.

  • A city thrives when its residents are actively involved. Many people want to make a difference but don’t know where to start. By organizing at a local level, we can create real, lasting change in our neighborhoods and beyond.

  • When necessary this campaign will mobile residents for pickets, protest and petitions. Civic education as well as attendance at Council and Committee meetings are essential in this campaign.

    We are encouraging the formation of community organizations and promoting Civic Saturdays, where residents come together to tackle local issues. Whether it’s fixing public spaces, attending council meetings, or organizing local initiatives, this campaign is about mobilizing everyday citizens to reclaim their city.

Campaign Four

End Corruption

Reports of corruption and City Capture are continuously emerging from the City. In partnership with other organisations, this campaign will endeavour to expose these irregular and corrupt activities through investigative journalism and using all forms of media.

  • Corruption is bleeding Joburg dry. Funds meant for essential services are being stolen, and political interference is making the city ungovernable. If we don’t stop City Capture, service delivery will continue to collapse, and ordinary citizens will suffer the most.

  • We are partnering with investigative journalists and watchdog organizations to uncover and expose corruption at all levels of the city’s administration. Through public campaigns, media coverage, and legal advocacy, we are fighting to hold those in power accountable.

Reimagine Joburg

The campaign strives to build a ground-up vision to Reimagine Joburg as a City that serves all its residents and that restores the pride in our great city.

  • Joburg wasn’t always like this. It was once a city of opportunity, culture, and economic growth. We need a long-term vision for a better Joburg—one that serves all its residents and restores pride in our city.

  • The Reimagine Joburg campaign is bringing residents, activists, and experts together to create a shared vision for the future. Through forums, research, and advocacy, we aim to develop a citizen-driven plan for a thriving, inclusive, and well-governed city.
