Joburg Crisis Alliance Summit-6 to focus on Presidential Johannesburg Working Group

The Joburg Crisis Alliance (JCA) will convene its sixth Summit on Saturday, 10 May 2025, from 09h00 to 13h00 at the Margo Steele Auditorium, Wits University. This important gathering will bring together approximately 350 delegates from civic organisations, residents' associations, and concerned community members to discuss Johannesburg’s ongoing governance and service delivery challenges.

A key focus of the Summit will be the Presidential Joburg Working Group (PJWG), established by President Cyril Ramaphosa in February 2025 following his visit to Gauteng. The JCA has actively participated in the PJWG workstreams and the Summit will provide a platform for civil society to assess this engagement and articulate its expectations moving forward.

Crucial issues on the agenda include the urgent need for ethical leadership in the City of Johannesburg, especially in light of recent criminal charges against Acting COO and possible City Manager candidate Helen Botes. The JCA insists on a transparent and credible appointment process for senior City leadership.

Another pressing concern is the ongoing debt dispute between Eskom and the City, which has raised fears of a citywide power shutdown.
