Metro Centre Protest

Residents, heritage experts, activists, architects and engineers protest at the City’s Metro Centre.

The Joburg Crisis Alliance (JCA), in partnership with the Johannesburg Heritage Foundation (JHF) and JoburgCAN, staged a peaceful placard demonstration to voice deep public condemnation over the ongoing abandonment of the Joburg Metro Centre and the critical crisis facing the City’s Building Plans Archive. The demands of the protest were threefold: to access the reports that the City relied upon to abandon the Metro Centre, to provided access to the planning archives, and to allow oversight by professionals over its digitisation and relocation, and the establishment of a Stakeholder Forum.
