Water Crisis Protest

01 November 2025
Joburg City Council Precinct
10h00 - 13h00

Residents from across the City join the protest.

The streets outside the Johannesburg Council Chamber echoed with one united call: Water Justice for All! Across the city, residents have endured weeks of dry taps, erratic supply, and broken promises, leaving residents, schools, and small businesses struggling to function. Civic groups including the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation, WaterCAN, the Joburg Crisis Alliance, CADE and many others led a peaceful, non-partisan protest demanding urgent action to fix broken infrastructure, protect water funds from misuse, end the abuse of tanker contracts, and ensure full transparency and accountability from the City. A memorandum handed to Mayor Dada Morero captured the frustration and determination of hundreds who gathered in solidarity, insisting that water is not a privilege but a basic human right. The protest was a mirror of a city’s growing discontent — and a rallying cry for dignity, equality, and honest governance.
