JCA Calls for Ethical Leaders to Serve on Joburg Entity Boards
JCA Encourages Qualified Residents to Apply for City Board Roles
The Johannesburg Crisis Alliance is calling for ethical, qualified and capable residents to apply for positions on Johannesburg’s Municipal Entity Boards and Advisory Committees before the 17 May 2026 deadline. Transparent, merit-based appointments are essential to improving governance, accountability and service delivery across the City’s key public institutions.
CoJ Entities Board Appointments Must Prioritise Integrity and Competence
The Johannesburg Crisis Alliance (JCA) is encouraging suitably qualified residents to apply for positions on the Boards of Municipal Entities and Advisory Committees recently advertised by the City of Johannesburg. Applications close on 17 May 2026.
The advertised positions include Non-Executive Directors, Independent Audit Committee Members and Advisory Committee Members across thirteen Municipal Entities and various Group Advisory Committees. These entities are responsible for services such as water, electricity, transport, roads, waste management and infrastructure development.
The JCA notes that board appointments within municipal entities have historically raised concerns relating to political patronage and governance failures. Ineffective leadership and weak oversight contribute to institutional instability, financial mismanagement and declining service delivery in some entities.
Johannesburg continues to face challenges linked to infrastructure deterioration, utility failures, water shortages and declining public confidence in local government. Strengthening governance structures within municipal entities is necessary to improve accountability and operational performance.
The JCA calls on professionals and specialists from sectors including finance, engineering, ICT, transport, economics, governance, urban planning, law and public administration to apply for the available positions. The City’s advertisement specifically identifies these areas of expertise as relevant to the appointment process.
The organisation also welcomes the inclusion of stricter integrity and disqualification requirements for applicants implicated in corruption, dishonesty, insolvency or governance misconduct. However, these measures will only be effective if the appointment process remains transparent and based on merit.
The JCA encourages qualified residents to apply before the closing date of 17 May 2026. Stronger governance and accountable leadership within municipal entities is necessary to improve service delivery and institutional performance in Johannesburg.
