JCA supports the fight against infrastructure theft and vandalism
Stop Infrastructure Theft in Joburg!
Criminals are sabotaging Joburg’s power and water infrastructure, putting lives at risk. JCA urges residents to report suspicious activity and demand swift action.
JCA Calls on Residents to Fight Infrastructure Theft
The Johannesburg Crisis Alliance (JCA) is urging residents to take action against infrastructure theft and vandalism, following a shootout at the Fordsburg Substation on 25 February 2025. Criminals targeting electricity infrastructure pose a serious risk to both law enforcement and city officials, and City Power has committed to holding those responsible accountable.
JCA fully supports these efforts and is calling on residents to report any suspicious activity related to power or water infrastructure theft. These crimes not only disrupt essential services but also fuel illegal activities like illicit water tanker sales in affected communities.
Residents can report incidents to City Power’s control room at 011 490 7911/7900/7553, the toll-free hotline at 0800 002 587, or via WhatsApp at 083-579-4497. JCA also urges the city to ensure these lines are monitored 24/7 and that reports are met with swift action.
