The JCA launches its Civic Saturdays Campaign in Noordgesig in Soweto
24 May 2025 - The Joburg Crisis Alliance launched its CIVIC SATURDAY Campaign in the community of Noordgesig in Soweto. The JCA demonstrated the variety of activities that communities could engage in to support this campaign. The day’s activities included painting a wall mural, cleaning up the plaza, renovating the swings in the playground and a community history walkabout. The walkabout included a visit to the house in which legendary community leader Mama Vesta Smith lived in. Participating in the days activities were Ma Vesta’s daughter Inez, Ward Councillor Brenda Dammie, members of the Gauteng City Region Observatory, the local marching band and community members. Noordgesig residents Fabian and Lavinia Otto coordinated the event with the JCA. The large wall mural depicts the 5 campaigns of the JCA, namely Ethical Leadership, Stop Corruption, Active Citizenry, Service Delivery and A New Vision for Joburg. The JCA is calling on residents across the City to organise Civic Saturdays.
