Joburg Region-F leads the way in Regional civic organisation

Grassroots Leadership Shines as Region-F Charts Path for Change

Community organisations in Region-F have taken a bold step in addressing Johannesburg’s pressing service delivery and governance issues. Through a ground-breaking Civil Society Dialogue held on 17 May, residents from across the region united to tackle challenges ranging from infrastructure failures to crime and corruption.

On 17 May 2025, Region-F in Johannesburg hosted a Civil Society Dialogue that brought together residents, community groups, and civic organisations to confront widespread service delivery failures and governance issues.

The initiative was commended by the Joburg Crisis Alliance (JCA) for creating space to address local challenges in greater depth than citywide forums typically allow.

Key issues discussed included electricity, water, infrastructure, crime, park maintenance, and illegal buildings. Participants identified root causes such as corruption, poor planning, weak by-law enforcement, and lack of coordination among city departments.

The dialogue led to a unified action plan focused on documenting challenges, engaging with authorities, setting accountability timelines, and expanding civic participation. A comprehensive report of the event will be shared with relevant implementing bodies.

The JCA praised Region-F’s leadership and is encouraging similar initiatives across other Johannesburg regions, committing to support civic leaders in replicating the model elsewhere
